California's Only True Invitational

Where only the Elite Compete

Four friends sitting around at Starbuck talking about High School Wrestling one evening come up with a format for a Tournament that no believes will ever happen. Fast forward and those friends are now planning the second year of the event.

When the format was first debated the four friend who were all High School level coaches were looking to create an event that did three things:

1) Brought together high level competitors.

(Year One 40% of the Competitors Made the trip to CIF State In

       Bakerfield)

2) Was affordable so that all could compete.

(This event was and continues to be free )

3) Was designed to be a day event open to CIF Wrestlers-

( This event is a 12 man bracket with a true wrestle back for 3rd)

These four friends received help from all over California last year and this year have expanded their group. This year "The Dream" California's only true Invitational is allowing any Wrestler in the State to submit his resume for consideration for an Invitation into the Tournament. Returning State Qualifiers will receive preferance, followed by section placers, major tournament placers and other wrestlers who believe they should be in the tournament.

Doc Buchanan - Jan 6-7, 2012 - "Where the Best Meet"

The 35th Annual Doc Buchanan Invitational at Clovis High School is an open invitation to ALL wrestling programs to register their Elite Wrestlers to compete for the prestigious cowboy hat! All California wrestling programs are allowed to register wrestlers who have either previously qualified or any wrestler you feel has a legitimate chance to qualify for the 2012 California State Wrestling Championships. The Doc Buchanan registration criteria was established several years ago in the interest of time, space, and competition in order to provide the best opportunity for wrestlers to prepare for the post-season, for coaches to gauge preparedness, and for spectators to witness some of the best wrestling in the country in a fan-friendly environment. The tournament has not only been well received, but the level of competition has increased with each year. We expect this 35th Annual Doc Buchanan to be better than all previous events with the best wrestlers California has to offer in the Central Valley and beyond. The true 32-man bracket format, using the registration criteria, make every round challenging for wrestlers and create an atmosphere most similar to the true State Championships in March.

If you are wondering if the Doc Buchanan is a good fit for your capable wrestlers, here are some reasons to consider this
year's event:

1. The "Super 32" format (true 32-man bracket with few if any pigtails) makes the bracket smaller and more competitive early so there is room for many small groups of entrants from all over the state of California.
2. Wrestling on Friday is over at approximately 6:00pm!
3. Individual finals on Saturday are some of the best in the Western US, wrestled under a spotlight and beginning at 5:00pm. The finals order is selected to provide an atmosphere of building anticipation and excitement, capping the night with the state's best match-ups. Last year's final match battle between Alex Cisneros and Fabian Garcia went to double overtime and left everyone on their feet wanting more!
4. You only compete against quality opponents thus this is a great tournament for the current match count rule.
5. Allowing individual entries at $60/wrestler keeps the tournament cost affective for all programs and adds to the level of competition faced by all wrestlers. Fewer entries, fewer hotels, fewer vehicles, and less gas equal a lower overall expense to each program.
6. $500/team for entries of 9 or more keeps cost reasonable for teams as well.
7. We have the majority of the returning California State Medalists and Champions already registered for 2012!

Attached are the invitation and the contract for 2012. Please feel free to join the fun!

If you have questions, email me at stirapelle@gmail.com. Hope to see you at the 'Doc B' this January!

This event is Ranked Number One by POWERRANK a system that uses several variables to determine the strength of the competitors at any given event. Coach Tirapelle has established a truly first rate tournament designed for the elite wrestlers. It is an event that should be drawing Wrestlers from all Western States.
